It was the last decade of the last century when, displayed in the window of a Parisian antique dealer, a painting caught my eye. The name of the artist was unknown to me, but the pictorial quality left no doubt: the work had come from the brush of a great master. The cartouche behind the canvas made reference to Prague and so, tracing the painter’s life, I searched, investigated and found our that before history’s attempt to erase his name, one of his paintings was worth as much as a large house in Prague. When it is the fruit of the mind of a genius, art may be trampled upon, mocked, obscured, but will never die, as is clear from the paintings in this exhibition.
